Personal Statement

My name is. I want to apply for LCC CertHE Preparation for Design, Media and Screen. I began to learn about film and television since the first year of high school. But it was till the senior three that I had a deep understanding of this field and desired to take it as a major. In the art course, I participated in the recording of TV programs and was completely attracted when the live director introduced various equipment and workflows, which made me realize that is my interest. Art cannot be clearly divided according to the type, and it is intermingled. This is especially true for film, existing as the seventh art. A good film and TV producer must be all-around. multi-faceted, including but not limed to audio-visual capabilities. I love reading and literature and these readings will be of great help to my future creative learning.

In UK, variety shows includes almost all events of the hot news, smearing and reassembling them. Entertainment programs are a little deeper than the news but shallower than philosophy. Everyone wants to win the lottery and become a millionaire, so they have "Millionaire" and "Millions of pounds fall". Ordinary people would like to be celebrities so there is "X Factor.". I have seen an interview in which the British director Malcolm Clarke expressed his opinions on Chinese film and television. He remarked, “When I look at Chinese TV works, I find that many stories are floating on the surface. The questions are not deep enough.” To be honest, many Chinese films have some degree of preaching, hard to impress people. Therefore, when Westerners see China’s political propaganda film, they will turn it off. Teaching propaganda is by no means the right way to tell stories. If I were asked to give the Chinese media a small suggestion, I would suggest to talk more about the story of the characters and less about the achievements of technological development. I personally think most of the people occupying the mainstream cultural position in China are not proud of Chinese culture. The story is often of Chinese-style but Western-style logic. Whether it is film, television, or cultural creation, people tend to be interested in telling Chinese stories, blind and exclusive, and are reluctant to use a "Western" (marketization) way to tell stories. In the end, it is not coming, not on both sides. So, I want to learn more in the UK and get a deeper understanding of the Western way.
